  1. FROM CYNTHIA KLINK =D

    1. Membean
    2. Web-based
    3. This is a vocabulary program for high school. The teacher creates classes, the students join and calibrate. The students are then given words to learn that they do not know--it's an individualized list of words for each learner. The students get mnemonic devices, roots, videos, word maps, contextual references with links to the original articles, quizzes, and spelling for each word. The program stresses time learning words as opposed to a number of words to learn. The teacher can assign quizzes, which the program generates according to the words each student studied. Tracking includes time on each word, words learned, words restudied, idle time, accuracy, and more.
    4. We are using it to replace traditional vocabulary lists that force everyone to study the same words no matter what their vocabulary may be.
    5. Modification. This type of depth and differentiation would not be possible because most educators need to go to sleep at night.

  2. 1. Genetic Science Learning Center http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/
    2. Web Based
    3. This a website designed to give students basic information about genetics. It includes video tutorials, interactive explorations of topics, and virtual labs. Students can watch videos discussing a wide variety of tops from DNA to Genetic Disorders, then use this information to complete web based labs.
    4. This can be used to replace direct instruction as well as allow students to complete labs in a non classroom setting at their own pace without an instructor or without the lab materials.
    5. Augmentation- This replaces traditional direct instruction as well as traditional labs for students. It would be useful for online learning as well as allowing students who may not have access to a lab or laboratory materials the laboratory experience and information.

  3. 1.Class DoJo, https://www.classdojo.com
2.Class DoJo works on android, iOS and web-based.
3.Class DoJo keeps track of student behavior. You are able to add points or take points away depending on a student’s behavior. Once the student gets so many points they may receive a positive reinforcement and vice versa for losing points. A lot of the older grades use this at my school and I am looking into beginning to use it in my Kindergarten classroom next year.
4.Class DoJo in my opinion is between the augmentation and modification levels. It is used as a substitute to what you are using for behavior tracking, but you can also design it to fit your wants and needs.

    1. I use DoJo in my classroom, but wasn't a fan of using it to track behavior. I have changed it to serve two purposes. I use the points system to quickly record whether or not students turn in forms and homework on time. Also, at the beginning of the year, I shared enough information where I was getting calls to my school line, calls to my cell phone, letters, texts, and emails. I have started making DoJo my recommended way for parents to contact me, since I get alerts and it's only parents on there contacting me, so their messages don't get lost in everything else.

  4. 1. https://create.kahoot.it
    2. Web-based (I learned about it during a PD when we used it with our phones, but since I teach third grade, we use the web-based version)
    3. I use Kahoot.it as one of those fast-paced quiz options mentioned in a resource we explored. It allows me to quickly assess where we are in our learning in a way that the students LOVE!
    4. I would put this at modification. It's above substitution because the students cannot compete and see their data like this with a paper quiz, but it's not one of the tools that I think is redefining education.

  5. I absolutely love all the digital tools that are being shared here!! As a substitute, teachers do not tend to share what digital tools they use in their classroom in their lesson plans. I have not heard of any of the above tools! I am making note of them, so I will have them for future use in my own classroom.
I researched a few tools and found one that I found interesting, that I would like to try one day.
    1. Flippity.net
    2. Web-based
    3. It is a tool for teachers to use with their class. The teacher can make flashcards, quizzes, mad libs, random name picker, badges and progress reports.
    4. I would like to try the flashcards, quizzes and random name picker.
    5. I think this tool would fall between substitution, because I feel like it is a tool to help the teacher.

  7. 1. Globe Geography 3D
    2. OSX 10.6.6 or later
    3. This is an interactive, annotated globe that gives a conceptual overview and the descriptive histology of various topics. The globe can be turned and viewed from various angles. It also has clickable buildings, monuments, and natural wonders.
    4. My students do a lot of atlas work throughout the year. This tool would give them the opportunity to view what they are studying in relation to other areas without using a flat map. Depending on what kind of project is assigned, this globe could open a variety of possibilities.
    5. I think this tool would initially fall into the substitution category, but could easily move to augmentation, modification, or redefinition depending on the project it is being used for.

  8. 1. Speakaboos
    2. iOS 7 or later
    3. This is an app that has stories that children can pick to listen to, or to read on their own. While listening to stories children are encouraged to participate by clicking on pictures. The words are also highlighted as the story is being read. They can also listen to songs, and it has multiple themes of stories to choose from.
    4. Instead of my students listening to the same story, they could be grouped together to pick their own story to listen to.
    5. I think this fall into the Substitution category because I would no longer be reading one book to all of the students. They would be choosing their own theme and story. I do think I could do more this app and move into a different category.

  11. My kids really like Kahoot!

It is an interactive quiz game. You can make your own quizzes or search through the thousands of pre-made quizzes. The kids love when we do these and they love competing against each other. If your students do not have devices you can still have them write down the answers to the questions and then compare at the end or collect.

It can be used as an app on iOs devices or it can just be used as a website.

  12. https://www.remind.com/
I have used remind for the past two years. It is a great way to remind students and inform parents about assignments and other events. It can be used as an app, on Apple or Android devices, and as a web site. Character space is limited, but the staff at remind is making changes to make it even more accessible.

  13. 1.One of the apps that I use daily is https://answergarden.ch
    2.Web-based
3.This site is awesome. I use it as a way for my 4th graders to quickly collaborate about a question that I ask. This site allows students to be on their own computer and collaborate with the entire class or maybe even a class that isn't at your school. The site shows the question, then all students begin to type their responses in. The responses continue to pop up on the screens. The more a response is given, the larger the print.
4.It can be used as a pre assessement activity, exit ticket activity, brainstorming activity, post assessment....
5.Answergarden would be at the Modification level. Students would be creating a mindmap of answers together while collaborating with each other.

  14. 1. epals.com
    2. Web-based
    3. Epals is a global community where people from all over the world connect with each other. It is a social learning network that allows students/teachers to work collaboratively on content and projects. It is a great way to make learning diverse and connect with students of the same age and work as a team to complete projects/assignments.
    4. One specific way that we use it is through the use of pen pals. It's a great tool for my 2nd graders to work on friendly letter format and many other grammar standards.
    5. Epals could be used on the modification or augmentation level depending how in depth you want to get with it. Students would be collaborating with each other to create projects/assignments together.

  15. abc mouse
    droid and i-pad compatible
It is a fundational program that the kids log on to and learn at their own pace all the basic skills and then even more science and social studies content as they work through the different activities. Each child is given a learning path and the more they work on the program and learn the more the path changes to challenge them.
This site can be used to track the students learning and monitor their use of computer time as well as see where they struggle and need extra support'
I think this is augmentation because they are learning at their own pace and each child determines their pace and where they want to go withing the app.

  17. I really love the website called Prodigy. It is a game based practice for math facts. The students get to create their own characters and battle each other by answering different kinds of math facts or word problems. The word problems can be read to them. They find it highly engaging but it also helps with that fact fluency and reasoning behind solving story problems. It also lets them work on creating houses for their characters (almost like a minecraft) but they have to solve math problems to be able to have enough money to buy the things to build their house. It allows the students to learn math but also be creative at the same time. The students love it.

    The website is:https://www.prodigygame.com/

It is web-based and tends to work better on an actual laptop or chormebook. It is somewhat harder to do on an IPad but it is possible.

  18. 1. www.wevideo.com
    2. web-based (Chrome app also)
    3. allows students to create videos using their own picture or those found online
    4. I use this program with 5th grade students to create book trailers. In a nutshell, students choose a book, create a storyboard, upload images and then create a trailer their book. The project incorporates identifying important parts of a story, learning how to search for photos that are okay for them to use (digital citizenship) and writing. This project allows for a lot of creativity and the students enjoy it.
    5. On the SAMR model somewhere between Modification and Redefinition??

  20. I have used class dojo
It is droid and web-based I believe
it allows teachers to keep tract of students behavior and parents to be notified right away. I used it for a year and it was fine. But it was challenging, because I was having to constantly look at my phone and look away from the kids throughout the day and keep to keep up with each child and respond to each parent. i didn't do it again.
Does anyone have any great sites or ideas for Kindergartners?
